Proof from real deployments

Eleven projects published by the M2M Solutions group, with the results it reports for them. They were delivered in Europe and show the product and engineering experience behind our work in Australia. They are not Australian customer projects.

TLS

Transport, dock and yard

Paper and tissue production, Harmanec

SHP Harmanec

20% more shipments, without a single extra truck

SHP Harmanec, a pulp and paper manufacturer founded in 1829, had trucks arriving in spurts instead of in line with real loading capacity. TLS now plans arrivals in time windows, takes its data from the central ERP and lets carriers register for a slot themselves. The first version was delivered within three months of signing the contract.

  • Loading by time slot, not first come, first served
  • Connected to the central ERP, with nothing rewritten by hand
  • Fewer unplanned truck arrivals and fewer production stops caused by logistics

Woodworking, pulp and paper, Ružomberok

Slovwood

Timber from thousands of loading locations, on time and without road congestion

Slovwood Ružomberok is one of the largest operating units of the Mondi SCP group, a pulp and paper mill with a processing capacity of up to 2 million cubic metres of wood a year. Deliveries arrived unevenly and contract fulfilment was verified by hand. TLS now plans transport against the real capacity of the plant, books carriers into free time windows and checks each transport against GPS data.

  • A supplier can request transport only when unloading capacity is free
  • Two-way communication with SAP, weighing and attendance systems
  • Carriers assessed continuously on service quality and price

WMS and ILS

Warehouse and internal logistics

Logistics for the automotive industry, Bratislava

GEFCO Slovakia

2,000 pallets a day, delivered in six weeks

GEFCO Slovakia ran warehouse management in Bratislava for the PSA Peugeot Citroën Slovakia process. The requirements were FIFO storage and picking, traceability of every pallet and support for quality control, at a turnover of 2,000 pallets a day. The WMS guides operators with scanners, recommends a position from the real volume of material and records every movement by barcode.

  • On-time supply to the production line
  • Fast staff training and a minimal error rate
  • Savings in warehouse space and FTEs through shorter picking distances

Healthcare, Bratislava

Bory Hospital

Materials always in the right place, on time and error-free

Bory Hospital in Bratislava, with 405 beds and 1,400 employees, set out to digitise its processes from the very beginning. Medication, medical supplies, meals and waste all had to move accurately and on time, while transport requests arrived from several systems at once. WMS and ILS now run the warehouse and internal logistics as one workflow, connected to the hospital information system.

  • Every transport request in one place, delivered and collected within set time windows
  • Picking from an electronic list, with transport ordered automatically
  • Urgent requests added and resolved immediately

M2L

Order picking

Automotive manufacturing, Nitra

Jaguar Land Rover

Picking with an error rate of less than 0.0001%

The Jaguar Land Rover plant in Nitra, with a production programme of 150,000 vehicles a year, needed faster and more accurate picking of material for production. M2L marks the position to pick from with light, shows the number of pieces, and confirms the pick when the operator interrupts the light beam. It integrates directly with the plant's SAP.

  • Several orders picked at once, with a double check of correctness
  • New operators trained in minutes, not weeks
  • Integrated with SAP and third-party systems

DHL Exel Slovakia

85% shorter training, almost zero error rate

At the Bratislava car plant DHL picks parts at commissioning workplaces to the production plan of each vehicle. Growing production and a shortage of staff called for faster picking without changing the existing racks and boxes. M2L guides the picking for several cars at once with programmable RGB LED strips, and a laser sensor checks picks from larger positions. It was deployed within three months and has been in use since 2015.

  • Deployed into the existing racks and boxes, with no rebuilding of the workplace
  • The workplace expanded without new employees as production grew
  • DHL is extending the cooperation to WMS, TLS and custom applications

Fruit and vegetable warehouse, Senec

Hortim

Seasonal changes in inventory no longer slow down picking

Hortim's fruit and vegetable warehouse in Senec changes its range with the season, and its warehouse positions with it. M2L was integrated with the existing WMS from our partner Anasoft as a visual layer on top of it. The operator picks only the positions that are lit, in a hall kept at around 5 °C.

  • Works on top of the existing WMS, with no change to it
  • Picking accuracy held through continuous changes in warehouse positions
  • Quick installation without downtime

OEE and ORS

Production

Home appliance manufacturing, Poprad

Beko Slovakia

From one system to three in less than a decade

Beko Slovakia, formerly Whirlpool Slovakia, makes washing machines in Poprad, with a capacity of about 2.4 million units a year. In 2010 a visual material receipt system replaced Excel spreadsheets, with the first version delivered within three months of the order. OEE followed in 2014 to measure machine and line performance, and ORS in 2019 to show operator training and availability at each position.

  • Each system solved the problem that had arisen at that point: logistics, then machines, then people
  • None of the three required replacing production equipment
  • The cooperation continues with Kanban, SAP HANA integration and M2L

Pharmaceutical production, Banská Bystrica

Galvex

130 packs of medication verified per minute, each one traceable

Since February 2019 prescription medicines in the EU must carry safety features and be verified against the European Medicines Verification System. In 2022 Galvex replaced its original serialisation system with a new track and trace solution that generates and verifies serial numbers on the production line and reports to the central European database.

  • Marking and checking directly on the production line
  • Automated and manual handling, including samples taken to the laboratory
  • Ready to package for external customers, with import and export of their serial numbers
